Downfall of civilization alert - smoke alarms

"We think there's a need for the community to have smoke detectors in every home and if that means that we have to have legislation, to make it compulsory, then so be it," he said.
"For the cost of a packet of cigarettes, that's a cost of a smoke detector."
It's a frickin smoke detector not the key to world peace.
And that cigarette reference is just plain inflammatory.

I bet you its the insurance companies behind all this.
They make you pay all this money to fix your house if it burns down, but with the smoke detectors then there will be less damage cause the fire brigade will be alerted sooner.
rubbish. The house next door burnt down recently, and the smoke alarms were melted on the floor. We only found out cos of breaking windows from the heat, and put it out with my garden hose about 15 mins before the firebrigade came from "another town". (Unbeliveable, i know)
It's a stupid law when you look at it that way.
It's a pointless law, my house would need at least 4 to be safe.

Scince backburning obviously doesn't work, and we have mega bush fires every year, how about we just tear down all the forests. We could also ban people from having gardens.........you can have pot plants but thats all.
How are they going to police it?
